About this blog:

This site was not developed with the intention of drawing a large number of visitors using trivial methods and shallowness. There is rejoicing among the angels of God over even one sinner that repents and believes in Jesus Christ. (Luke 15:10) If, for as long as this site exists, only one sinner is led to repentance and belief in Christ with the aid of the material presented here, the purpose of this site has been served.

"All Work and No Play Makes Lane a Dull Boy." - Grandma

      Thursday, March 21, 2013

Since this is a personal blog, I guess I'm allowed a personal post once every four years or so.  Hobbies are a great thing.  I think they really help to keep us sane, and God has given them to us for that special purpose.  Many of you know that I enjoy Youtubing, and I've also devoted a lot of time to studying law and theology.  But not as many people know that I have always loved to play basketball.  Even as a little kid, I just always enjoyed it.

These days, I use it more as an outlet to keep fit and spend time with friends than something I take very seriously (as seriously as I did when I was a... say... "full-of-myself, look-at-me" early 20 something?), but it will always have a special place in my heart.  My wife has the same love for it.  In fact, that's how we met.  She played at Clemson University for her first two years.  I was friends with her teammates before I met her.  They would ask me to come scrimmage with them in the gym, and one day, Susan, coming off an injury, hobbled up and introduced herself.  The bond was made.  She transferred to play for the Gators, and I went to law school in California where we had a "Skype Relationship" for about two years.  The rest, as they say, is history.

I play in a lot of leagues here in Orange County, CA.  At one point, I was playing in four a week until I realized how expensive Icy Hot and Advil can get.  One of the leagues was a LA Fitness league.  I made friends with the manager of the league a few years back, and we won a couple championships so he asked me if I'd like to be in a commercial they are shooting to endorse the league.  I said, "Fa sho." (Just like that.)  (Ok, maybe not.)

      Here's the commercial:

Subsequently, because of being in this commercial, they asked me if I'd like to participate in their "Make Your Best Shot 2013" Contest they have each year.  Given, I'm 33 now.  I'm not as young as I used to be, I show how much I enjoy a good buffet a little more than I used to, and the date they wanted to do this was almost immediately after the California State Bar Exam.  In fact, the session (where they had me do like 15-20 dunks in all) was the first physical activity after I had done since the 18-21 hour, 3 day state bar exam.  I had been outside of physical activity for about two weeks. So I was like, "Free shoes?  Ok."

The video below is the one selected.  The contest runs until April 8th, and it is entirely based upon views.  The winner gets really good tickets to the Clippers game on April 16th (Susan's and my first anniversary is on April 6th, and her birthday is on April 15th.  Yeah... I have thought about that...).  The most views wins the contest!  So while I normally don't care about views on Youtube videos on the LaneCh channel, I'm making an exception for this one.  Here's the video, and all it takes is a view!  Currently, I'm about 17 views behind the lead!  Thanks!
