This site was not developed with the intention of drawing a large number of visitors using trivial methods and shallowness. There is rejoicing among the angels of God over even one sinner that repents and believes in Jesus Christ. (Luke 15:10) If, for as long as this site exists, only one sinner is led to repentance and belief in Christ with the aid of the material presented here, the purpose of this site has been served.
This means the turning away of wrath by an offering. It is similar to expiation but expiation does not carry the nuances involving wrath.
Greek word: ἱλαστήριον hilastērion
defn: 1) relating to an appeasing or expiating, having placating or expiating force, expiatory; a means of appeasing or expiating, a propitiation 1a) used of the cover of the ark of the covenant in the Holy of Holies, which was sprinkled with the blood of the expiatory victim on the annual day of atonement (this rite signifying that the life of the people, the loss of which they had merited by their sins, was offered to God in the blood as the life of the victim, and that God by this ceremony was appeased and their sins expiated); hence the lid of expiation, the propitiatory 1b) an expiatory sacrifice 1c) a expiatory victim
But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;... Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God has set forth to be a PROPITIATION through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
(Rom 3:21; 24-25)
And he is the PROPITIATION for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (1Jn 2:2)
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the PROPITIATION for our sins. (1Jn 4:10)
"You see, this is the Cross that all these modern-day "preachers" put in the back of the store and not in the store front window because it's a shameful thing, it's a horrid thing, it's a terrible thing. Some of you are looking at each other as though, 'I've never heard anything like this before.' Absolutely! And that's the Cross has so little power in your life.
This is a horrid thing, a vile thing, not the kind of thing you wear around your neck."
- Paul Washer
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us who are saved it is the power of God. (1Co 1:18)
(*Note: Ironically, this show on Open Air Evangelism was shot in the open air so the sound quality does suffer sometimes. Hopefully it doesn't take away from the overall presentation of the the truths found in this video.)
Is open air preaching supposed to be a nomadic tribe of people disassociated from everything or is it supposed to be done under the guidance of a local church? Can open air evangelism produce people who become a law unto themselves? Is everyone required to open air preach?
The lawman, Tony Miano, joins me on this episode of Rightly Divided to discuss this and more.
Why does someone need justification? What exactly is justification? Why is it important to preach Jesus Christ and not moralism? How does justification affect one's marriage? How does it affect racism?
Shai Linne joins me on this edition of Rightly Divided to discuss these topics and more.
