A Reasoned Response to the Warren/Piper Situation by Michael Horton
Thursday, April 1, 2010
Yesterday, I reported that John Piper has invited Rick Warren to Desiring God 2010. Many people have asked me why I disagree with Warren. Michael Horton of the White Horse Inn and Westminster Seminary California has written a blog post that highlights some of the concerns I share. In it, Horton states,
"I believe that (Warren's) message distorts the gospel and that he is contributing to the human-centered pragmatism that is eroding the proper ministry and mission of the church."
He goes on to give reasons why he finds error with Warren's Gospel without the rhetoric that I'm guilty of using at times. Regardless of what you think of me and the way I've presented the situation, please disregard that for the time being, and read this article by Dr. Horton. I welcome the day that I can give much more reasoned responses to issues I'm obviously greatly concerned about without allowing my zeal to override my better judgment such as he does here. Here is the article.

@Anonymous, after getting anonymous comments from people that weren't very charitable yesterday, I implemented a policy that I'll no longer allow anonymous comments. I agree with what you have to say so if you come back and just put your name at the end, I'll post it. I just would be a hypocrite if I said "no anonymous comments" then allowed only the ones I agree with. Hope you understand. Thanks.
Hello Lane.
Thank you for posting this, it is much appreciated and helps me to understand a bit more of what is going on.
:-) relax about the rhetoric and zeal my Brother, I have come to understand the reason for it and I read your posts through different eyes now - God will grant you the wisdom and the patience in Christ!
