About this blog:

This site was not developed with the intention of drawing a large number of visitors using trivial methods and shallowness. There is rejoicing among the angels when even one sinner repents and believes in Jesus Christ. (Luke 15:10) If, for as long as this site exists, just one sinner is led to repentance and belief in Christ with the aid of the material presented here, the purpose of this site has been served.

      Calvinism/Arminian Online Live Streaming Debate
      (James White vs. Steve Gregg)

      Friday, April 4, 2008

The Calvinism/Arminian debate between James White and Steve Gregg has been going strong for two days now with three days left. I will link to the mp3's each day for you to download. Check back about 8pm or so each night. As of this post, yesterday's and today's has been very informative, and I believe it will be a great resource for those wishing to learn more of the doctrines of grace and to see how they stand against scrutiny.

Click here to stream the debate each day at 5-6pm EST.

You can join in chat with others who are listening to it, as well, HERE.

Hi Lane - I see that James White posted your great little player containing all of his Sunday School lessons from PRBC. Let me say you did a fantastic job converting the Real Audio files. I hope you do more of them! I am a Pastor of New Beginnings Evangelical Church in Seekonk MA. Our site is at www.nbechurch.org. We use the sermon.net layer for our mp3s. I am Reformed Baptist in polity, and perhaps you can include a link to my blog at http://www.baptistandreformed.org if you feel so inclined. I am on vacation this week from the church so have some time to "blog". Thanks for your hard work again.

      Blessings,
      Pastor Scott Oakland

      Pastor Scott,

I looked over your site, and I found a lot of great things there. I'll be happy to include your site in the link section of my blog. I'm glad you appreciate the mp3's. Lord willing, I'll do more in the future. The plans are that I will have his entire church history lessons (all 49 of them) in the future like the audio you've already seen. Thanks again for the encouragement.

      Take care,
      Lane

      Lane,
After having listened to the debates last week and this week, it seemed to me that only Dr. White was basing his understanding on a careful exposition of the text itself.

Early on, I thought Mr. Gregg was going to present some good arguments, but he never developed anything past the assertions of the first day.

I had posted these also on my blog, and I came here to tell you that they were available, but you beat me to it! :)

      God bless,
      bob

Bob, I wholeheartedly agree with you about the debate. I spend a lot of time in James' chat room, and since even before he did the exegesis on Romans 9 a while back, all we heard about was how Gregg was the person to beat in regards to non-Calvinism. To say that I was disappointed is an understatement. After the first day, I too thought something would develop, but never did. I hope he realizes that people who were looking for sound arguments from his side needed a lot more than, "Well, I just don't believe that" and "I don't think the text says that; if you do, then that's fine." I think those who truly do appeal to Scripture as their final authority have decided that James clearly won this debate because appealing to Scripture for his arguments is exactly what he did. I even sensed Gregg try to use emotional argumentation at times. I've said it time and time again: I hope James realizes how thankful we are for what he does. I was thinking about writing a review of the debate in it's own blog post, but I think I just did. :)

Also, thanks for making the effort for coming to let us know about the mp3s. If I hadn't have posted them already it would have been great to have access to them. Take care.
